Pet ownership in North America, as well as other parts of the world, is a commonality. Research has shown that in the United States (U.S.) alone, more than 60% of all households are occupied with a pet. Although current research validates the importance of preparedness and the benefits of being prepared, numerous U.S. residents, regardless of pet ownership status, do not prepare for an emergency.
The vulnerabilities associated with the lack of animal preparedness can be devastating. Displaced pets can result in wild, rabid, and unruly packs of animals, cause a rise in the number of pets being euthanized, initiate water and food contamination and infectious disease outbreaks, and cause a sudden increase in the prevalence of mental-health issues amongst pet owners.
Put an END to the negative consequences associated with the lack of animal, emergency preparedness and become a PETPREP change agent TODAY. Your monetary donations will do the following:
- improve the pet, emergency planning efforts amongst pet owners,
- decrease the amount of displaced pets,
- decrease the amount of euthanized pets,
- decrease the amount of traumatized pet owners, and
- reduce the amount of mental-health issues amongst pet owners as a result of grief and heartache associated with the loss of their pet due to a disaster.
Lastly, an expansion of pet emergency planning will have a positive impact on society as a whole, for proper planning will decrease opportunities of water and food contamination, parasitic and viral breeding grounds, infectious disease outbreaks, and any remaining negative facets associated with displaced pets due to disasters.
